Biography
- His father played violin, was a mariachi, and worked as a carpenter
- He grew up with a variety of musical tastes. He said, “My adolescence was spent listening to Javier Solis, sounds of mariachi, the Beatles, Doors, Carlos Santana and Chopin.”
- He wrote a series of Danzones inspired by Latin ballroom dancing, Cuban dance music, and the music of Veracruz, Mexico – these pieces are what gained him popularity outside of Mexico
