The Beat refers to the steady pulse we feel when listening to music. Think of the beat the same way you’d think of your own heartbeat. Just like your heartbeat, the musical beat can be faster or slower, and can even speed up or slow down. But the beat almost always stays steady!
Tempo tells us how fast or slow the beats are. We measure the tempo in “beats per minute” (BPM) using a Metronome.
If the beats were exactly one second apart, what would the BPM be?
