- Rimsky-Korsakov was appointed as a professor at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. He was a great teacher even without having professional training.
- Rimsky-Korsakov was easy to identify. He was very tall, wore thick, wire-rimmed blue glasses, and had a full beard.
- While he was a naval officer, Rimsky-Korsakov had the rare opportunity to travel to exotic places, which inspired his musical work.
