Biography
- As a teenager, Verdi was rejected by the Milan Conservatory for not being good enough. Decades later, he became so famous the school was renamed in his honor!
- He became known as a symbol of Italian pride and unity, and was even elected to parliament
- In total, Verdi wrote 28 operas, with his final one being written when he was almost 80 years old
- His funeral procession was attended by over 300,000 people, making it the largest public assembly in Italian history
